About Greenwood Plantation

Until 2009, Greenwood Plantation was thought to be the oldest plantation still standing in Wilkinson County, MS. It was built in 1792 by Patrick Foley, an Irishman who came to America to work for the Spanish. He acquired vast amounts of land from New Orleans, Louisiana to Natchez, Mississippi through land grants. He built Greenwood as a one-story home- the second story is believed to have been added in the 1840s.

Though originally situated on a much larger tract of land, the estate was eventually divided into three tracts and the Greenwood tract passed down from generation to generation through the Foley family. Currently, the home is situated on 135 acres.

The current owners purchased Greenwood in 2021 and are the first non-descendants to own this historic property.
